The young riots lit fires in the main street of Agia Fyla causing problems with passing drivers
There were large episodes on Friday night in the area of Agia Fyla, where about 200 young people clashed outside a bakery, holding bats and throwing stones.
Most had their faces covered with hoods. Police arrived around 21:30, after information received from citizens. However, due to the large number of stakeholders, it did not immediately intervene. Instead, additional staff were called, and a crisis management center was set up under the guidance of the Limassol Police Director. Residents in the area, however, complain that they were calling the police from a very early age without a response to the incident. Finally, at about 23:00 there was a dynamic intervention by the Police where they made 13 arrests, 9 of which are minors. The ages of those arrested are between 16 to 19 years.
In photos and videos circulating on social media, it seems that young riots lit fires on the main street of Agia Fyla, causing problems with passing drivers who could not use the road. The fire was needed to intervene by the Fire Service.
All the detainees were presented this morning before the Limassol District Court where they were detained until tomorrow night. The offenses they face are, conspiracy, bumps, malicious damage and possession of aggressive organs. In fact, one of 13 is also facing an offense for the theft of motorcycle as he was arrested while driving the theft machine.
