Dortmund laid the foundations for their qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League. Westphalia won 2-0 against Atalanta at Signal Iduna Park in the first duel between them for the playoffs of the top European club competition.
It was only in the 3rd minute that the German team took the lead with a header from Girassi, who assisted Bayer for Dortmund’s second goal in the 42nd minute. The rematch is scheduled for February 25 at 19:45 at the New Balance Arena.

The match
Dortmund came in strongly and opened the scoring in the 3rd minute. Ryerson from the right made the filling in the area, Girassi took the header and sent the ball into the net. The Westphalians had the upper hand and in the 16th minute they had a new moment with Bayer’s misdirected shot. The Bergabaskis tried to threaten in transition, but to no avail.
In the 41st minute, Dortmund had a very good moment with Anton, a few minutes before Westphalia’s second goal. Girassi got away from Jimsiti, stepped into the area from the left, fed Bayer on the other side, who scored in front of an empty net for 2-0 in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, the guests tried to take some measures, without, of course, threatening the home of Dortmund. The Germans, for their part, were defending their lead.
In the 67th minute, Dortmund had a good moment for a third goal. Ryerson’s corner was taken by the keeper without a proper clearance, but Brad then missed. Somehow, the Westphalians got the win and have the upper hand for qualification.
