Against the escalation of violence in Gaza and violating the agreed ceasefire by Israeli forces, a group of citizens went on Friday afternoon at a protest organized by United For Palestine near the Israeli Embassy in Nicosia.
The event began with a rally at 5pm in similar traffic lights at the intersection of Griva Digeni and Lord Byron, and then the gathers marched up to the next lights at the intersection of Griva Digenis Avenue with Prodromou Street.
Markos Economou, on behalf of the United For Palestine, said that “ethnic cleansing” by Israel began on March 17, violating the truce that was for the sake of being, in his expression. We are here, he said, to pass a message to our own government “that turns a blind eye to a crime against humanity, as described by the International Court of Justice.”
Any government of the Cypriot state, he added, should have long interrupted any cooperation with the State of Israel. They demand, concluded Mr Economou, the end of Israeli military aggression, respect for international humanitarian law, access to humanitarian aid to Gaza and accountability for “war crimes”.
