Baku, Azerbaijan, April 14. Eni and Argentina’s
state energy company YPF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) to evaluate Eni’s potential participation in the Argentina
LNG project, an integrated gas development initiative led by YPF,
Trend reports.
The project aims to develop gas resources from Argentina’s Vaca
Muerta shale formation and reach export capacity of up to 30
million tons per year (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the
end of the decade. The MoU covers the development of upstream,
transportation, and gas liquefaction infrastructure through two
floating LNG units, each with a capacity of 6 MTPA, totaling 12
MTPA.
According to Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi, YPF’s interest in
partnering with Eni is based on its experience with floating LNG
(FLNG) projects in Congo and Mozambique. YPF President and CEO
Horacio Daniel Marín said the agreement could help accelerate the
project timeline, noting growing international interest in gas from
Vaca Muerta.
The MoU aligns with Eni’s broader strategy to support the energy
transition, expand gas production, reduce emissions, and strengthen
energy supply security and competitiveness.
