This will be Netanyahu’s fourth trip to Washington since the start of the war to Gaza and the second from the takeover of Trump’s duties in January. The visit will also make Netanyahu the first foreign leader to personally negotiate with Trump for the sweeping new tariff policy of the US President, which included 17% duties on Israeli products.
Netanyahu’s office has not confirmed the visit, whose agenda could include discussions about Iran and Israel’s war against the Hamas armed organization in the Gaza Strip.
The invitation-surprise by President Trump was made during a telephone conversation with Netanyahu on Thursday, with the Israeli prime minister visiting Hungary when he himself raised the issue of duties, according to Israeli officials.
