Inadequate and socially unjust, AKEL characterizes the new government’s electric plan, noting that with only 260 sponsorships it does not meet either environmental goals or the needs of society.

In a statement, AKEL states that the unseen sponsorship and the very high market costs are favored by the market for luxury electric cars, depriving the possibility of our vulnerable fellow human beings and the average family for substantial access to electric vehicles.

The party emphasizes “the need for comprehensive planning with emphasis on mass transport, infrastructure and greater penetration of green energy”.

As he notes, plans must change philosophy, with the priority of tackling energy poverty, adding that this requires more resources, longer duration and targeted actions for the benefit of the most vulnerable.

“Transportation must become a right and not another privilege of the few,” AKEL concludes.
