Government’s performance does not meet citizens’ expectations

A survey conducted by the Symmetron Market Research for the 2dots LTD records interesting findings for the political system in general, the government and the political parties in particular.

Basic findings

According to the results, the political system is still moving in a low barometric, helpless and apparently unable to effectively deal with the indignation and depreciation of citizens. The government’s performance, although improving marginally compared to October 2024, do not live up to citizens’ expectations. The parties are on a slide trajectory with limited range and resonance in society. Only ELAM is preserved, which enhances its dynamics and seems to ensure third place with today’s data.

Citizens categorically reject reassuring assurances of the course of economic indicators and relevant international upgrades. They only count what they experience daily and the sum is heartbreaking. The standard of living of the majority of citizens is shrinking, living expenses, and especially housing and energy are increasing geometrically while middle class income remains stuck.

• Optimism about the future of the country is limited to 27%, nine points above October. And pessimism reaches 73%.

• Pessimism about the economy’s course is 69% (a decrease of 8 points compared to October).

• The deterioration of the standard of living, the course of the economy, the Cyprus issue, the scandals and the uncontrolled entry of irregular migrants are the most important problems facing the country.

1. The government shows signs of recovery, but it is not so active to re -adhere to the already crushed image since October. The majority of citizens are still standing against the government with a critical mood.

• Government satisfaction is only 21%, plus eight points since October. .

• The approval index for how the President performs his duties is 30% and rejection to 64% (51% in the government parties).

• Not even in the management of the Cyprus problem is a vote of confidence in the government. On the contrary, 65% criticize manipulations while 31% say they are satisfied (42% in the government). Compared to October, the image of the Cyprus management improved by ten points.

3. The views on the desired solution for the Cyprus issue are divided between the IDC 36% and the single state 35%. 14% prefer to remain the situation as it is and 7% are in favor of the two states.

• 46% of the voters of the government’s parties support the single state and 26% of the IDD.

• 44% of DISY voters are in favor of the ID and 24% in favor of the single state

• 66% of AKEL voters support DDO and 19% of the Single State.

4.41% welcome the president’s foreign policy and 55% against.

7. The five Members who stood out with their work and action are Irene Charalambidou 16%, Pavlos Mylonas 12%, Efthimios Dpiros 8%, Costas Costas 7%and Dimitris Dimitriou 6%.

• DISY leads Efthymios Dpilos with 24% and Dimitris Dimitriou with 21% followed by Averof Neofytou, Savia Orphanidou, Haris Georgiadis, Nikos Georgiou and Nikos Sykas

• In AKEL, Irene Charalambidou ranks first with 31% and followed by Kostas Kostas 24% Aristos Damianou, Giorgos Loukaidis, Andreas Kafkalias and Christos Christofides

• DIKO is preceded by Pavlos Mylonas with 31% followed by Christian Erotokritou, Chrysis Pantelidis, Panikos Leonidou, Zacharias Koulias, and Irene Charalambidou.

8. With the exception of ELAM, the electoral influence of the other parties is on a downward trend and does not reflect their power in 2021. The sum of the influence of the two large parties in the indefinite vote ranges from only 29%, while the parties of the intermediate space have been plotted. In unclear vote, DISY’s electoral influence is 15.7%, AKEL 13.4%, ELAM 8.6%(with a rise of 0.7 compared to October), DIKO 5%, EDEK and Volt 2.4%, Ecologists 2.2%and DIPA 1.9%. In valid ballots, DISY receives 21%, AKEL 17.9%, ELAM 11.4%, DIKO 6.7%, EDEK 3.3%, Volt 3.2%, Ecologists 3%and DIPA 2.3%

5. The majority of citizens (61%) are favorable to the upgrading of Cyprus and the United States of America. The corresponding percentage among DISY and DIKO voters amount to 80% and 77%. AKEL voters have a diametrically opposed view with 75% to condemn the upgrading of the two countries’ relationships. In young people 18-39 years positive crises range to 69% in contrast to 48% in ages over sixty

6. The critical stance for the government is crucial affecting the President’s popularity as it ranges from 35% (plus three points compared to October). In the parties of the government, its popularity is 55% and DISY 34%. Of the political leaders, only Annita Dimitriou has a positive sign. Its popularity is 48% (74% in DISY). However, compared to October, it has lost four units. Also noteworthy is the popularity of 36%, Christou 31%, Perdiki 38%, and Averof Neophytou 34%. Stefanou wins 77% in AKEL, Christou 86% in ELAM, Perdikis 62% in Ecologists and Neophytou 61% in DISY. None of the other policies have popularity of over 30%. Odysseus Michaelides’ popularity is 58%.
