Baku, Azerbaijan, April 15. Iran must proceed
with caution in its negotiations with the US, said Iran’s Supreme
Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Trend reports.
In his address during a meeting with a group of state officials
in Tehran on April 15, Khamenei emphasized that the initial steps
taken towards discussions have been carefully planned, but it is
crucial to continue proceeding with caution.
Khamenei noted that both Iran and the US have clearly defined
“red lines” in the negotiations.
“It is possible that the negotiations may not lead to a
conclusion. We remain neither overly optimistic nor overly
pessimistic about the outcome. While there is evident pessimism on
the other side, we remain confident in our abilities,” he
remarked.
The Supreme Leader also clarified that the ongoing work across
various sectors in Iran—such as industry, economy, construction,
and culture—should not be linked to the Oman talks. He explained
that the Oman talks are just one of the many initiatives handled by
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the country’s internal
issues will be shaped by the outcome of negotiations. The
production sector, in particular, relies heavily on investment
discussions, which are intertwined with sanctions.
Khamenei pointed out that while the lifting of sanctions is not
entirely within Iran’s control, there are significant domestic
capabilities to neutralize their impact. He further emphasized the
importance of strengthening relations with neighboring countries,
as well as with nations across Asia, Africa, and beyond, and called
for careful monitoring of various processes at different
levels.
On April 12, indirect talks between Iran and the US on Iran’s
nuclear program were held in Muscat, Oman. The discussions, led by
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and the US Special
Representative for Middle East Affairs, Steve Winkoff, were
described as constructive and based on mutual respect. The next
round of talks is scheduled for April 19.
