The match
Olympiacos wanted to enter the game strongly, taking advantage of the decibels of their home at the start of the match, however Panathinaikos was the one who was lucky to get in front of the score in the 7th minute. Tamborda teamed up nicely with Tettei, playing a one-two, was favored by the counter with Retso and slotted home from a difficult angle from the right.
In the next few minutes a certain picture took shape. Olympiacos had possession, with Panathinaikos defending in low yards. The red and whites didn’t manage to create big risks, with the greens properly closing the spaces, with the cooperation of all the players. In the 15′ the red and whites released the ball, Kostinia crossed from the right, but Taremi’s header was weak and did not worry Lafon.
In the 17th minute, Podense made the cross, but the Panathinaikos goalkeeper did not face a problem. Many attacks of Olympiakos were from the side of the Portuguese winger, who tried to worry the home of Lafon, without success. Panathinaikos remained dangerous, as long as they found enough space. In the 31′ Antino crossed from the left and although the red and whites seemed to be pulling away, he again entered the phase and took the header, Tettei in turn made another header, but his effort went wide.
In the 40′, Panathinaikos ran on the counter, in a phase where Olympiacos had a corner. Tettei took advantage of his speed, pressed into the area, but Ortega stopped him with a charge. The first half ended with a header by Taremi from inside the area going wide.
Madrid brought on Martins at the start of the second half, looking for something different offensively. Panathinaikos, for its part, did not change its approach and continued to successfully close the spaces, with the home team’s mistakes being repeated and the opportunities few and far between. In the 61st minute, the red and whites found an empty space, but El Kaabi’s shot from the semi-circle was completely off target. In 62′, Antino made a nice move from the left, shot, with Tzolakis driving away for a corner. Generally, the Argentine winger looked to create dangers in transition.
In the 73rd minute, a shot by Antino went wide. Three minutes later, Taremi turned to Clayton, who took a shot from inside the area, the ball finding Martins and going wide. In the 78th minute, Olympiacos had their biggest chance of the game.
Taremi found Podense with a backheel, he made a parallel turn from the left and Martins from the small area sent the ball over the crossbar in a finish worthy of 0.78xG. Panathinaikos responded with an incredible chance as well. Pantelidis was unable to find a goal from the small area after a turn from the left by Zarouri (0.8xG).
Olympiacos then couldn’t find a way to level the game, with the greens defending and continuing to look for the counter. In fact, in stoppage time they found the net with Pantelidis, but the goal was canceled for offside. Somehow, 1-0 remained until the final.
