Russia killed Navalny with frog poison, Britain says

The British Foreign Office blames the Russian state for the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

According to the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his death was the result of poisoning with frog toxin (epibatidine).

Frog toxin was reportedly used when 47-year-old Navalny died suddenly on February 16, 2024.

Yulia Navalnaya, the Russian dissident’s widow, announced the find at a press conference at the Munich Security Conference. Next to her were the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The UK and its allies Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands said the “barbaric” act – the use of a neurotoxin classified as a chemical weapon – could only have been carried out by the government of Vladimir Putin.

Navalny was being held in a prison about 40 miles north of the Arctic Circle when he died. He had been sentenced to decades of imprisonment in a “special regime”.

Navalny’s allies have repeatedly blamed the Kremlin for his death – accusations that Moscow has dismissed as absurd. Russian authorities insist he died of various illnesses, including a heart arrhythmia caused by high blood pressure.

What is this toxic substance

As the Daily Mail writes, this particular toxin is used by some indigenous tribes in South America in arrows during hunting. It causes numbness and paralysis.

A report states that the substance “epibatidine” is 200 times more effective compared to morphine and is extracted from the skin of a poisonous Ecuadorian frog.
