€ 8.5 million was paid for wages of priests and the rest as VAT refund
The total amount of € 10.5 million paid the state to the Church as sponsorships in the year 2024 on the basis of two agreements. The € 2 million relates to state sponsorships to monasteries and temples against a value -added tax refund (VAT) for construction projects, while the remaining € 8.5 million were paid to cover part of the payroll of the priests.
The above payments by the Ministry of Finance were made known by data released yesterday by the Republic of the Republic on its website.
