The arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu was based on criminal reports and is not linked to the candidacy of Mayor of Constantinople for the country’s presidency, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tundz said.

As he said, “the decision to arrest Ekrem Imamoglu is logical given the gravity of the charges against the charges.”
The Turkish minister appealed to the Western countries, mainly to “European friends” to wait for the outcome of the research and the legal process and not rushing to draw conclusions, following the criticism of Imamoglou’s arrest of some countries.
Ankara asked its European partners to act with “common sense,” Tuz said, adding that the seriousness of the complaints against Imoglu demanded his arrest.
“We do not want the arrest of any politician, but if there is evidence of infringements (of the legislation), then this can happen. If we look at the seriousness of the complaints and as there is a risk of concealment, the judiciary has made a rational decision, “he added.
