In his brief address, at the start of the PRIMETEL 5km corporate road, Kostas Koumis expressed his joy that such events, “have evolved from sporting events to celebrations of our cities and our country.”
He added that the event has a positive impact on our country’s tourism, as it attracts many athletes from abroad and wished everyone to enjoy the route on the Limassol coastal front.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism was accompanied by the pupil of the Paralimni High School Andreana Takka, who won in the writing competition “What would I change if I were Minister/Deputy Minister for one day”. As he said, it is an excellent experience to accompany Mr Koumis, for a day in his obligations and that he considers that “we must continue to do events, such as today, that offer a lot of tourism and the economy.”
For his part, the Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeitis, welcoming everyone “to the biggest celebration of sports”, said the 5km corporate race. It is an excellent opportunity for everyone to try endurance, health, well -being and team spirit.
He also thanked the volunteers for their contribution to the success of the event and invited everyone to run and enjoy the route “on this sunny Limassol Day”.
In addition, in his statements, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the event, Spyros Spyros, referred to the social nature of the Marathon and the fact that he has managed to be “a celebration of humanity and volunteering, with a rich charity work”.
The PRIMETEL 5km corporate road was first placed by the Cyprus Port Authority team, followed in second place by the Limassol Passenger Transport Team (EMEL), while the Indrive team won the third place.
The wife of the President of the Republic gave, at 11:30, the start of the 2km Youth Road. “Andrey & Julia Dashin’s Foundation Youth Race”, congratulating the children for their participation.
Philip Karsera Christodoulides said that the participation of children sends messages of participation and effort, stressing that “the most important is the route”.
Tomorrow, Sunday, at 7:00, the 42km OPAP Marathon will be launched, followed by Muskita semi-Marathon Street 21 km, Petrolina Energy Race 10 km and Axlebolt City Race 5 km.
