TheCyprus

Today, the six defendants for the murder of Stavros Demosthenos, which was committed on October 17, 2025 near his home in Agios Athanasios, are appearing before the Criminal Court in Limassol. The six defendants will be asked to answer whether or not they admit to the charges against them, which include, among other things, the heaviest charge of the criminal code, i.e. that of premeditated murder.

The indictment includes at least 104 prosecution witnesses, which will increase. These include all three people who were arrested in connection with the case and later released, which also raises questions about the handling. It is questionable whether the witness material has been completed in its entirety.

It remains unknown whether the trial will begin today or whether there will be issues that will lead to a postponement, but this is not at all unlikely for such cases and they are mainly related to the witness material.

The six defendants

He is a 28-year-old Greek expatriate from Georgia, allegedly one of the two people in the van, who interrupted the march and murdered Demosthenus, probably the executioner. There is testimony that he admitted participation, while his DNA was found on a hat and clothes associated with the perpetrators.

The 31-year-old, a relative and friend of the two 28-year-olds, allegedly helped the escape and arranged fake license plates. The Police placed him inside the van, while gunshot residue was detected in a hat connected to him.

The second 28-year-old man was allegedly involved in the escape from Agios Tychos, with his vehicle recorded on cameras.

Two 30-year-old men are involved in the supply and management of the motorbike, with one acting on the instructions of a prisoner.

Finally, a 51-year-old man is linked through DNA to flammable materials in a suspicious vehicle.
