A negative in such a possibility is the Aradippou Municipal Council.
Reactions in Aradippou’s intention to build a Plastic Waste Fireworks in the Kosi Industrial Area. The company, which promotes the project, presented the environmental impact assessment study on Thursday night, but faced the disagreements of citizens present. Negative in such a possibility is the Aradippou Municipal Council, which met extraordinary the following day (28/03) and decided to ask the government the declassification of Kosi from an industrial area A ‘, in an effort to stop the burden of the area. This is because this area is already presenting a burdensome image with the presence of the landfill, the storage of the EAC piles, the demolition of demolition recycling unit, and asphalt is also planned. The Municipal Council approved a letter to the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, announcing its negative position in this request, while demanding the declassification of Kosi from a category A industrial area, so that the operation of heavy nuisance and environmental industries in the future would be avoided. According to the company’s designs, the factory, which is planned to be erected in a leased state piece, will take place plastics for the purposes of producing oil. As stated in the environmental impact assessment study, the factory will consist of five similar pyrolysis units of maximum daily combustion capacity of 50 tonnes of plastic, except for the PVC category, and producing 25 tonne of pyrolysis oil. The position of the company is that pyrolysis is an alternative and environmentally accepted method of waste management and therefore the proposed project will contribute to sustainable and rational management of plastic waste. He further argues that the production of pyrolysis oil, which can be used in industry and for energy production, will significantly boost the Cypriot economy. At this stage, however, none of this seems to persuade the Municipal Authority of Aradippou.
