In view of the forthcoming expanded conference in July, in New York, our side is intensively prepared to create the right conditions for the re -opening of the dialogue in the Cyprus issue, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou said, assuring that the race continues.
The Minister of the Interior represented, on Sunday morning, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at the National Memorial of the Agros Community Hero, Petros Eliades, who was fatally injured by the British on June 14, 1956, during the fire.

“Our only and unmistakable goal is to reunite our homeland, based on the agreed framework and the negotiating acquis, with respect to European authorities and values,” he said, stressing that “in this direction, we are working with determination.”
He pointed out that “from taking over the country’s rule, the President of the Republic has been indulging in a targeted effort, with specific and realistic actions, which will create the conditions for the reopening of talks from the point where they were interrupted in Cran Montana.”
Constantine Ioannou stated that “despite the dichotomous rhetoric adopted by the Turkish side and its claims for the solution of two states, we do everything possible, utilizing all the diplomatic means at our disposal.”
He also noted that the very specific diplomatic protests on our side resulted in the removal of stagnation that had been observed for seven years in the Cyprus issue and reminded that “with perseverance, we have succeeded in convening a first informal polymer meeting under the Secretary -General of the United Nations and Secretary -General. High symbolism, that of the European Commission Special Envoy.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the active presence of the European Union in an ongoing effort by the United Nations, “proves the practical support of our European family in the process and we seek to be catalytic for the continuation.”
At the same time, he emphasized that our side is preparing intensively in view of the forthcoming enlarged conference, which will be held under the auspices of the Secretary -General of the United Nations, in New York, in July, “so that we can create the right conditions that will lead us to meaningful progress and resume”.
“Our ultimate goal is to achieve a solution of functional and sustainable, which will ensure the rights of all the legal citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, which we want to transform into a normal state, free from occupation army, guarantors and invasive rights,” he added.
Constantine Ioannou said that our side is aware of the debt and duty it applies to the history and future of our Cyprus, and that “with unity and unity, we continue our struggle, until the day we will mention Peter and all our heroes”.
