Asked if the Turkish side accepts the appointment of Maria Achela Olgin as the UN Secretary -General’s personal envoy, Mr Kobos avoided entering the nomenclature, saying that the President of the Republic would discuss the issue of the appointment of the EU.

Called to explain what the responsibilities of the personal envoy would be, Mr Kobos said that he would have the responsibility of “preparing the next steps, those agreed in Geneva”. He added that the preparation would also concern the issues that will lead to the next conference.

Asked about the terms that Turkey must adhere to in order to participate in the effort to strengthen European defense, Mr Kobos said that there was the text of the European Council’s conclusions on enlargement and Turkish Cypriot liabilities. “We,” he added, “welcome this development and consider it to be what will lead to a routing to the right course that is the essential negotiations on the essence of the Cyprus problem.”
Barricade
Responding to criticisms on the issue of barricades and the need to raise the issue at the informal Geneva Conference instead of resolving Cyprus between the two leaders, Mr Kobos said that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar refuses to meet with the President of the Republic.
