Before the start of this season, the English Premier League had welcomed players from 126 different nationalities since the founding in 1992.
Now a 127th has been added to this whole, as the Times reports, since on Saturday, Reynildo from Monhaviki started with Sunderland against West Ham (3-0).
Mozambique is the 34th African country represented. In fact, 48 of the 55 UEFA Member States have already sent at least one footballer to the Premier League, compared to 10 out of 10 for Conmebol (South America) and 19 out of 35 for Concacaf (North/Central America and Caribbean). About 13 Asian countries, while New Zealand, Guadeloupe and Martinique fill the list, the French newspaper L ‘Equipe said.
In the last ten years, the expansion has slowed down. During the 2015-2016 season, three countries were introduced to the English Championship through Pedro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea, Berran Traore of Burkina Faso and Kosovaru Bersan Selina.
Since then, the championship has been opened in about one country per season on average: Armenia with Henrik Mhitrian, Bangladesh with Hamza Tsoudouri, the Philippines with Neil Etherytz, Guatemalah with Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Junior Firpo, Syros Mahmoud Dahud, Iraqi Ali al-Hamadi, Abdukondir Husanov from Ozbekistan and now Reinaldo from Mozambique.
