Julia Cleckner of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) became the fourth woman’s federal parliament, which first met for the first time with the composition that emerged after the February 21 elections.
With 382 votes in favor, 204 by 31 abstentions, Mrs Klekner was elected by a wide majority, as the future government coalition, Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD) will have 328 seats, out of a total of 630 of the Bundestag. The meeting was opened as the chairman of the left -wing Gregor Gizi, who is the oldest member of the present Parliament.
“Liberal democracy is no longer self -evident,” Ms Klekner said in her first position and promised to take care of “civilized behavior” in parliament, while asking everyone to think about the style of confrontation, especially in view of the challenges facing Germany.
The 52 -year -old Julia Cleckner has so far been the CDU’s treasurer and has served as Minister of Rural Economy in the Angela Merkel government.
