PASYSE General Manager Dr. Christos Angelidis reports that the reservations are 6% increased compared to the previous year
THEI forecasts for Cypriot tourism in 2025 are erased optimistic, with the first data showing improved bookings and arrivals. At the same time, efforts to expand the tourist season are intensifying. Although the country has remarkable infrastructure and weather conditions in the winter are mild, the tourism industry has been rolling rollers since December. In the winter, there were 56 hotels open out of 252, which are members of the Pancyprian Hoteliers Association (PASYXA), about 20%.
The expansion of the tourist season will only have beneficial results, as it will improve the financial position of tourism businesses, make tourist professions more attractive (will provide 12 months employment) and bring additional income to the economy.
Forecasts and trends
After a positive year in 2024, with a record in both arrivals and revenue, Cyprus aims to maintain the upward course, while enhancing its presence in basic and emerging markets. Early bookings for 2025 show a significant improvement compared to 2024.
“We declare based on the image of the reservations, moderate optimists,” says PASYXE General Manager Dr. Christos Angelidis in the “hotelier”, the magazine of the Association. “The bookings are 6% increased compared to the previous year. Given the liquidity that distinguishes the tourism sector, we will expect to see whether this positive mood will turn into real stays. In addition, we are monitoring exogenous factors that influence our tourism, such as geopolitical developments in our region, which do not retreat to the extent that it will be expected. Nevertheless, we note the positive trend that is found at least preliminary from countries such as Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom and wider smaller markets in Central Europe.
The year began positively, as Cyprus set a new record of arrivals in both February and the first two months of 2025. The arrivals of tourists in February amounted to 133,760 compared to 125,034 in the same month, with a 7.0% increase in January 20.0. Comparison with 212,995 in the first two months of 2024, increasing 15.4%.
Messages from Berlin
The positive prospects for 2025 were confirmed by the feeling gained by the Cyprus mission involved in Berlin ITB report. In 2024 arrivals from Germany amounted to 228,000, with a 5.7% share of the total arrivals, according to Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostis Koumi.
“The German market is an interesting market for every country, for every destination, because of its size, but also because of the profile of the German tourist,” commented Mr Koumis. In 2025 air connectivity will be better, with Cyprus connecting to 10 cities and the seats offered by 9% without including chartered flights.
