A circular on the school celebration of the anniversary of the National Liberation Struggles of EOKA 1955-1959 will be released on Monday by the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports of Greece, as informed today by the Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Athina.

Speaking to KIPE, Mrs Michaelidou explained that this decision comes after repeated demands by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth to the Ministry of Greece. As he said, for two years, requests were systematically submitted that the latter was submitted by both the Ministry and the Cyprus Ambassador to Greece, following the reshuffle to the Greek government and the appointment of Sofia Zacharakis as a minister.

According to Mrs Michaelidou, the publication of the circular for the celebration of April 1 in Greece concerns all primary and secondary schools. “Greece and Cyprus are also working closely in the field of education, as the educational relations of our brothers are excellent and reflects the inextricable national, historical and cultural ties of Hellenism,” Ms. Michaelidou noted.

He also said that the anniversary of April 1 would be honored in the schools of Greece with events and educational activities, as well as informing and raising awareness of the student community. Ms Michaelidou emphasized that it is “an important chapter in the history of major Hellenism, a historical decision that enhances the preservation of the unity of Hellenism and its historical self -consciousness”.

In addition, in her posting on X, Mrs Michaelidou welcomed Mrs Zacharakis’ decision to honor April 1, 1955 in the schools of Greece, referring to “a historic day that marked EOKA’s heroic struggle for freedom”.

Ms. Zacharakis’ decision was commented on by a post on X and the government spokesman, Konstantinos Letibiotis, saying that it was a decision of “deep historical significance, sealing of timeless links, the common path and the historical continuity that unites Cyprus and Greece”.

“It is not just a political act, but an act of validating the historical truth that withstands time and reminder of our historical responsibility,” adds Lytibiotis, noting that “April 1, 1955 condenses in a historical moment all those that determine and guide our national life”.

Ms. Zacharakis’ decision was commented on by her post on X and the Speaker of the House and President of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, referring to a decision that highlights the inextricable national ties of Greece and Cyprus.
