Unusual Chinese movements cause turmoil in Taiwan – because they build a bridge to the island’s coasts with three large barges

Alarm is causing the Taiwan government an unusual move by Beijing to create a bridge from the depths of the southern Chinese sea to the southern coast of the island, using three large barges.

Special ships are joined by each other, creating a large bridge that reaches the coast while starting from deep in the sea.

These moves have bothered Taiwan’s leadership as they are perceived as China’s attempt to land by transporting soldiers, military vehicles and weapons.

The barges operate in sets of three. The largest barge reaches 185 m long, and the smallest of 110 m.

Although the West Coastline of Taiwan looking at Chinese inland has few beaches and well -kept ports, the barge bridge, especially if elongated, could allow China to reach more inaccessible points that are difficult to keep.

What are special barges

Since the beginning of the year, it has become known that China has been building at least five new special target barges that look specially designed for amphibious attack. The barges are considered to be able to provide China a unique way of landing a large number of soldiers and tanks directly on the streets of Taiwan.

Each barge has a very long deck on its front, over 120 meters long, which can be used to land on a beach or hard surface on a beach. At the back of the ship there is an open platform that allows other ships to “tie” and unload.

Some of these specially designed barges have lifting columns that can be lowered to provide a stable platform even in bad weather. Approaching the land, a barge can act as a pier to allow the unloading of trucks and tanks.

These barges have been built at the Guangzhou Shipyard International Shipyard (GSI-Guanges Guangzu Shipyard) on the island of Longxue which has played a central role in China’s development as a naval force. It is particularly linked to the construction of unusual special ships, including a very large unmanned surface of the surface and a light aircraft carrier.

Beijing barges that scare Taiwan are reminiscent of the Mulberry Harbors built to allow the Allied landing on Normandy during World War II. Like those, they have been made extremely quickly, based on innovative designs. It should be noted that the lot of these barges appeared only recently.

The Mulberry Harbours, the Ports of Malbury, were two prefabricated temporary ports built by the British on two of the beaches of Normandy’s landing in 1944. The main purpose of these ports was to support the forces that made the landing and warfare.

Complaints by the Taiwan Defense Ministry

In a first reaction, the Taiwan Defense Ministry made complaints about the increase in Chinese military activity as Beijing completed the second day of military exercises on Wednesday night, April 2.

In official reports, Taiwan notes that it has identified 59 warplanes and 23 Chinese Navy ships operating around the island.

China, which considers Taiwan as its own territory despite the objections of the government there, announced on Wednesday that the Strait Thunder-2025A exercises, which included actual fire exercises and were done north of the island, were completed.
