Baku, Azerbaijan, April 12. A violation of the
state border from the Islamic Republic of Iran in the direction of
the Republic of Azerbaijan by 3 unknown persons was recorded on the
service territory of the Goytepe border detachment of the Border
Troops Command of the State Border Service on April 8, the press
center of the State Border Service told Trend.
“The border outpost was raised on command, the service area was
completely cordoned off. The border patrol opened warning fire into
the air. However, the violators put up armed resistance and opened
fire. The border patrol, in accordance with the provisions of the
Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the State Border”, returned
fire, neutralizing the border violator who was shooting, and
another was detained. Another smuggler, taking advantage of the
darkness and difficult terrain, fled towards Iranian territory.
During the inspection of the territory, a Winchester-type rifle,
a night vision device, cartridge casings and three large packages
of a narcotic substance (marijuana) with a total weight of 32
kilograms 400 grams were discovered and confiscated.
The Iranian side was informed about the incident through the
border representative office,” the statement stressed.
It was noted that the State Border Service continues the
necessary operational and investigative measures.
