Baku, Azerbaijan, April 15. The Heydar Aliyev
Center is rolling out the red carpet for an exhibition featuring
the masterpieces of the celebrated Brazilian painter and sculptor
Luiz de Souza, kicking off on May 16, Trend reports.

The exhibition titled “The Expression of Eternity” will also
feature artworks being presented for the first time.

The common thread running through the pieces on display is the
artist’s dance with time. Luiz de Souza feels that when he’s
painting, time flies out the window. In such moments, time doesn’t
just tick away like a clock but dances to its own rhythm in a realm
of its own.

The artist believes that in this whirlwind of the modern age,
the frantic dance to finish tasks swiftly is at odds with the
gentle rhythm needed to weave the threads of ancient techniques.
Yet it is precisely these intricate tapestries of time — those that
weave patience into their very fabric — that bestow upon artworks
their singularity and worth.

The theme of time is also at the heart of the painting
“Countdown”, which Luiz de Souza will unveil for the first time at
the Heydar Aliyev Center. The heart of the matter is a man on a
moped, going against the grain — as if he’s winding back the clock
and retracing his footsteps. This work is a ticking time bomb,
highlighting how humanity’s footprint is leaving a mark on the
planet, hinting that our actions are fast-tracking us into a new
chapter of widespread ruin.

Luiz de Souza’s new works include “Time Travelers”, reflecting
the idea of returning to the past and experiencing it differently,
and “Drowned in Time”, symbolizing the vastness of time compared to
our society.

At the tender age of three, the seeds of creativity took root in
Luiz de Souza, blossoming into a vibrant garden of artistic
expression as he began to sketch and mold the world around him.

His creations, displayed across the globe and cherished in the
sanctuaries of private collectors, echo the whispers of Jan
Vermeer’s gentle brushstrokes that dance with color and light, the
dreamlike visions of Salvador Dalí that twist reality, and the bold
chiaroscuro of Michelangelo Caravaggio that plays with the very
essence of light and shadow.

“The Expression of Eternity” exhibition will run at the Heydar
Aliyev Center until April 1, 2026.
