An armed attack took place on Friday night in Nim, in Gard, France, with the first reports referring to a dead and six injured, according to the Le Parisien newspaper.
The shots took place around 19:00 (France time) in the Valdegour neighborhood, near the “sensitive” area of Pissevin, in the southwestern part of the city.
Three suspects for the incident are sought by the authorities, and according to local media, the shots came from a weapon of high power. The NIMA prosecutor’s office has confirmed that investigations have begun and that it has been entrusted to the Division of Organized Crime (DCOS) of the Gard and Hérault areas.
Pissevin neighborhood is often at the center of episodes of violence associated with drug trafficking. The area has experienced several tragedies, such as in August 2023, when a 10 -year -old child was killed by a stray bullet, as well as in February 2024, when another armed attack resulted in a person’s death near a drug trafficking point.
In an effort to enhance security in the area, a police station opened in August 2024, but was set on fire just 24 hours after its inauguration.
Investigations are ongoing, while local authorities are calling on citizens to remain vigilant and inform any suspicious activity.
