Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe is in advanced discussions to star in Robert Eggers’ new film “Werwulf”.
In the film, a production of Focus Features, he is expected to co-star with Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and Lily Rose-Depp is in discussions to join the cast.
For the Werwulf script, Egks again collaborated with the Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjón, with whom they had signed “The Northman”.
Filming is expected to start in September in Elstri, England, while the film’s premiere in American cinemas is scheduled for Christmas 2026.
Production and funding have been undertaken by Focus with the director and Sjón having producer roles with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. Maiden Voyage’s Chris & Eleanor Columbus (Chris & Eleanor Columbus) are in executive production.
Egers seems to have found his permanent partner in the face of the famous actor. They worked for the first time in the A24 black comedy “The Lighthouse” followed by Focus Features’ productions, “The Northman” and “Nosferatu” with the star having supporting roles.
