The implementation of temporary emergency measures was decided by the Deputy Ministry of Immigration in light of the extraordinary situation prevailing in the Middle East and its effects on the operation of airports and air connections to the Republic.
Specifically, according to an announcement, the validity of the residence documents of third-country nationals who are outside the Republic and are unable to return is extended by the instructions of the Deputy Minister.
In detail, it is reported, bearing in mind that the state of emergency in the Middle East began on March 1, 2026, a series of temporary measures have been taken.
Firstly, regarding the holders of valid residence permits, it is stated that the holder will be allowed to enter the Republic with the valid permit, until 30.4.2026, provided that the period of three months outside the Republic has been completed after 28.2.2026.
Secondly, for holders of proof of receipt of an application for residence permit renewal, it is noted that by analogy with the above, the holder will be allowed to enter the Republic with the proof, until 30.4.2026, provided that the application is still pending or has been approved and the period of three months outside the Republic has been completed after 28.2.2026.
Thirdly, for the holders of entry permits with a maximum date of use for entry from 1.3.2026 to 31.3.2026, it is stated that the holder will be allowed to enter the Republic with the entry permit until 30.4.2026, regardless of the end date of the period of use for entry. This period is considered reasonable as it ensures at least one additional month for entry purposes.
The above measures, it is emphasized, are extraordinary and temporary and are justified, taking into account the generalized situation of force majeure that has been created, and which is not due to the fault of the affected persons.
The Deputy Ministry of Immigration and International Protection will reassess the situation in order to extend the application of the above measures, if this is deemed appropriate, depending on the conditions that will prevail, he concludes.
