The images arriving from the Xyliatou dam, which overflowed today, March 23, according to an announcement by the Department of Forestry, are enchanting. This development is attributed to the increased rainfall of the last few days and indicates the full adequacy of the reservoir.
As mentioned in the announcement, the overflow passes inside the Xyliatos excursion area, which is under the management of the Department of Forestry, creating an intense and impressive natural phenomenon.
The flow of water, combined with the forested landscape of the area, composes a scene that already attracts visitors, who rush to watch the image of the overflowing dam up close.

Reinforcement of water reserves
The overflow of the dam demonstrates the substantial strengthening of water reserves, after a period of intense and beneficial rainfall.
At the same time, according to the Department of Forestry, the increase in water reserves also contributes positively to the forest ecosystems, strengthening the natural vegetation and the overall environmental balance in the area.
It is recalled that the Xyliatou dam was built in the early 1980s, within the framework of the Pitsilia Rural Development Plan, with the main objective of irrigating agricultural lands.

The Forestry Department calls on the public to exercise caution when visiting the site due to increased water flow.
At the same time, the need for respect for the natural environment, maintenance of cleanliness, protection of flora and fauna, as well as strict adherence to the instructions and the relevant markings, is emphasized.
