AEK tried to stay alive in the battle of the championship, maintaining -6 from Omonia, but failed. The truth is that one cannot argue that they were entitled to something more, based on the overall picture of the match at “Alfamega” against Apollon (1-1).
The Larnaca team fell behind in the first half and did not concede a goal thanks to Alomerovic’s great interventions. The yellow-greens picked up the pace in the second half, but even after the goal, they lacked the concentration required to manage their lead.
Thus, -6 became -8 from the pioneer Omonia and, as can be seen, with the difference increasing and the competitive games becoming less, it is extremely difficult to reverse the situation.
Currently, a realistic goal for Rothada’s team is to secure 2nd place in the Cyprus League by Stoiximan and, within this context, the result in Limassol can be considered positive.
Of course, the goal of the championship is not abandoned, however everyone in the ranks of AEK knows how difficult the situation is, as everything depends on Omonia.
The suspension of the league will give the footballers a chance to take a breather. As for the match of the 3rd matchday of the playoffs against Omonia at the “Arena” (14/04/26, 19:00) there it will be seen if AEK still has the stamina to chase Omonia.
