World No. 1 Yannick Sinner, just before…entering the Madrid Masters 1000 where he can win a fifth consecutive tournament in this category, reiterated today (21/4) that his main goal is to be in the “best possible shape” for Roland-Garros in a month’s time.
“I’ve never played very well in Madrid,” insisted the 24-year-old Sinner, who has never progressed beyond the quarter-finals in the Spanish capital.
“I’m trying to improve as a player and this is probably one of the most difficult challenges because of certain factors, such as the altitude and the wind,” explained the Italian.
His goal is clear: “I know in my heart that the most important thing is Roland-Garros. We’re trying to be in the best possible shape there,” he stressed, while saying he regretted the absence of Carlos Alcarat, who is suffering from a wrist injury.
“Since last year, we have played many tournaments together. I also know that if I want to play with Carlos, it will be in the final and the road to a final is very long,” explained Sinner.
