According to the World Health Organization (WHO), protein is mainly responsible for the functioning of the body’s cells and should make up 15% of the total intake in a balanced diet.
Which meat has the most protein – What you need to know
Between beef, chicken, pork and fish:
Red meat (beef) leads the comparison, with about 35 grams of protein per 100 grams.
Pork tenderloin also contains about 35 grams of protein per 100 grams, depending on the cut. Pork is also listed as a source of B vitamins, as well as minerals such as selenium, iron and zinc.
Next comes the chicken fillet, with about 31 grams of protein per 100 grams. Chicken breast usually has less fat than red meat – about 3.5 grams per 100 gram serving, compared to an average of 10-15 grams in red meat.
Fish, which contains around 27 grams of protein per 100 grams, is often a lighter alternative. Sardines are considered a more affordable option in many cities and are listed as a source of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D.
How much protein should we consume?
According to scientific studies, protein consumption should not be the same for everyone, as nutritional needs differ according to gender, age, level of physical activity and other factors.
The general dietary guidelines specify a recommended protein intake of between 0.8 and 2 grams per kilogram of body weight, depending on age and level of physical activity.
However, scientific data shows that exceeding 1.5 grams per day does not provide additional benefits for muscle strength or performance.
