The 58-year-old man was brought before the Permanent Court of Criminal Justice sitting in Paphos today, Tuesday, for the case concerning the murder of the young Alexandros Antoniou.
The 58-year-old was transferred this morning from the Central Prisons to the Court under draconian security measures. The Court rescheduled the case for June 5, 2026 at 09:30, ordering that the 58-year-old remain in custody.
In today’s trial, the rest of the witness material was given, including the videos and photos. The representative of the Prosecuting Authority, Senior Attorney of the Republic Andreas Hatzikyrou today in particular handed over the videos that recorded how the episode unfolded. Additionally he delivered some expert reports.
At the same time, he requested that the 58-year-old remain in custody, citing the seriousness of the offenses and stressing that human life is the highest good, while he also mentioned the risk of the accused not appearing.
The 58-year-old’s defense attorney who represented the office of Ilias Stefanos did not object to his detention. He also added that he will check all the witness material in order to have a clear picture of the whole testimony.
The Court therefore set the case for June 5, 2026 and ordered that the accused remain in custody. At the next hearing, he is expected to answer whether or not he admits to the charges he is facing. It is recalled that the murder was committed in the afternoon of November 19, in the community of Konia.
It is noted that genetic material found on the back of the driver’s seat where the victim was sitting, according to the tests of the Institute of Genetics, belongs to the 58-year-old, while the forensic examination showed that the young man’s death was caused by a blow to the carotid artery with a lance and a cutting instrument.
