Turkey remains out of continuity with 62 phases for goals

Turkey entered the final stage of the World Cup after 24 years with high expectations and a host of rising stars in their ranks, but go out without a goal – so far – and in obvious disappointment, after losing 1-0 to Paraguay.

Turkey created, but missed, plenty of chances both against Australia (lost 2-0) and against Paraguay, who played with ten men in the second half.

In total in the two matches, the Turks had 62 attempts in the opponent’s home, a number that is the most in the annals of the World Cup since 1966, when statistics began to be recorded.

Visibly disappointed, 21-year-old Arda Guler, the “golden child” of Turkish football, apologized to his compatriots: “We tried very hard, but we didn’t succeed. However, we should have scored some goals. We should have won those matches. Everyone is sad, everyone is crying.”
