The platform for submitting applications for compensation of the shorted depositors will be reopened, in order for those who did not make it in time to submit an application, and depending on the results the payment will proceed, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis.
Coming to the awarding ceremony of the Invest Cyprus International Investment Awards, responding to a journalist’s remark that it was announced to the beleaguered depositors today that there will be no new plan for 2026, the President of the Republic said that “let me remind you that despite the many promises that were made, our Government was the only one that in practice what it promised before the elections did after the elections. What has been said is that a number of shorn depositors or securities did not have time to apply to the platform when it first opened.
As he noted, “right now the platform will be opened for all those who did not have time to submit applications to submit applications, it will be examined and depending on the results we will proceed with the payment – a specific amount has been budgeted in the budget for 2026 and a new plan for 2027. It is something we said before the elections. It’s something we started doing after the election and we will continue.”
