Leaders will discuss the next multi -year budgetary framework, immigration and the Commission’s return plan, the latest developments in the Middle East and other global issues.

EU leaders meet today and tomorrow in Brussels to discuss competitiveness and follow up to the Special Council of the European Council held on March 6th on recent developments in Ukraine and next steps in the field of defense. The issue of defense will be high on the agenda, following yesterday’s presentation of the White Bible, which includes the legal and financial plan to strengthen defense spending of EU Member States.

At the two -day meeting today at 12 hours of Cyprus, leaders will discuss the next multiannual fiscal framework, immigration and return plan presented by the European Commission last week, the latest developments in the Middle East and other world issues that are also on the agenda.

During today’s first day of the Synod there will be a working lunch with UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres and will discuss preparations for the UN Third Conference on Oceans and the fourth international conference on growth funding.

The program of the session

Arrivals on the Red carpet of the European Council will begin at 10.30am. Cyprus time and at 12 noon the exchange of opinions of EU leaders will begin, and there will be a conference with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski.

At 13.30 Cyprus, European Council President Antonio Costa and UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres will enter a joint entry into the forum, will follow a working lunch and exchange of views with leaders.

Then, at about 16.30 Cyprus, the Summit for the Euro Summit and the European Council of Working Council as well as the European Council’s work dinner will be held. Upon completion of the summit, a press conference will be given.

Although the Summit is scheduled to take two days, 20 and 21 March, sources from officials close to the European Council president did not rule out the possibility of work being completed late on the night of March 20 and no second day of work.
