The man who gave Germany the 2014 World Cup trophy, Mario Gotze, has extended his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt for two more years, until 2028, as the Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday (1/4).

The 33-year-old midfielder joined the club in 2022 after spending most of his career at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, with a spell at Eindhoven. At the age of just 22, he became a hero in Germany as he scored the only goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina in extra-time, coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of regular time.

Winner of the “Golden Boy 2011”, awarded to the best young player in Europe, he never had the career that was predicted, either due to injuries or other personal problems. He himself, after all, admitted in the past that he found it very difficult to manage the huge expectations created by his feat in the World Cup in Brazil.

In the German national team, he has 66 appearances with a score of 17 goals, while his last appearance with the national emblem dates back to 2023.
