International distinction for the composer Andis Scordis

On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Jaume Padrós Montoriol, Acord Edicions, in collaboration with the Festival Mixtur, has announced for 2026 the Jaume Padrós International Accordion Composition Competition, with the aim of promoting the creation and dissemination of new works for the accordion, as well as highlighting and promoting his musical heritage.

The response to this call has been remarkable, both in terms of the volume and quality of proposals received. In this edition, a total of 218 composers from 48 nationalities participated. The high level of applications made the selection of the jury particularly demanding. The jury consisted of Víctor Estapé, Mateja Zenzerovic and Festival Mixtur, represented by Oliver Rappoport and Oriol Saladrigues.

After a thorough evaluation process, the jury agreed to select Cypriot composer Andis Scordis in Category A. The award includes a commission for a new composition which will be premiered at Mixtur Festival 2026 and subsequently published by Acord.

Andis Skordis is a composer of contemporary music, with an oeuvre that includes more than 90 works (operas, symphonic works, chamber music, Gamelan pieces, as well as music for theater and dance). His works have been performed worldwide in concerts and contemporary music festivals and he has received awards such as the Buma Toonzetters Prize, the Berlin Opera Prize, the Black Pencil Prize, the Fedora prize, the first prize for composition for orchestra by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the composition prize for Piano Quintet in Korea and others.
