Dimitris Avramopoulos did not bring up the issue of Qatar visas in our meetings in 2020, former EU Migration Commissioner Hylva Johansson said in response to reports that she discussed lifting visas for Qatar with her predecessor, a Greek ex-commissioner, in a March 2020 meeting at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels.

According to information from the KYPE, there is a possibility that the meeting on the lifting of immunity will be scheduled at the Institutions and Transparency Committee of the Hellenic Parliament next Tuesday or Wednesday, where the member of parliament and former commissioner Avramopoulos himself will be expected to be present. Based on this timetable, the request to waive immunity to execute the European Arrest Warrant on behalf of the Belgian authorities, could reach the Plenary of the Hellenic Parliament for a final vote even at the end of July. Pending the execution of the warrant sent to Greece four weeks ago, no new information has been announced on the matter by the Belgian Prosecutor’s Office.
