The judge of Martorell handling the case of the death of the founder of Mango, Isak Adik, ordered the temporary custody of his first-born son, Jonathan Adik, finding him a suspect of murder. At the same time, he set the possibility of release from prison with the payment of a guarantee of one million euros.
The court adopted the prosecution’s proposal and imposed additional restrictive conditions on Jonathan Adick, including mandatory weekly court attendance, the confiscation of his passport and a ban on leaving Spain. His defense immediately completed the necessary procedures to pay the bail, resulting in his release a few hours later.
His arrest took place on Tuesday morning at his residence, after a long period of rumors and scenarios about whether the authorities would only call him for a statement or finally proceed with his arrest. The Addick family has publicly maintained that Jonathan is cooperating fully with the judicial and police authorities, while stressing that the presumption of innocence must be respected.
In their statements, representatives of the family said that there is no evidence to incriminate him and expressed confidence that his innocence will be proven during the investigation.
According to a report in the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the police authorities had put Jonathan Adick under the microscope since last October, as they found contradictions in the two statements he gave regarding the circumstances of his father’s death. In fact, when he left the Mango headquarters, the police asked him to hand over his mobile phone, which he did without objection.
Isak Adik died at the age of 71 while hiking in the Montserrat region. According to the information so far, only his eldest son was with him. The businessman allegedly fell from a height greater than 100 meters. Although the authorities initially treated his death as an accident, the contradictions in Jonathan’s statements seem to have led to a review of the case and the opening of a new investigation.
Investigations also showed that the relationship between father and son often went through crises, mainly because of Mango’s management. Isak Adik had handed over management of the company to his son in 2014, but returned a year later to take control again, which strained their relationship.
After the businessman’s death, a controversy broke out over his huge fortune. In his will, which he had signed in 2023, he provided for an equal division of the property among his three children, while also leaving specific amounts to other persons. He had left five million euros to his partner, but she asked for much more, around 70 million. Finally, after negotiations, they agreed to a compensation of around 30 million euros.
