By winning the 22nd championship in its history, Omonia missed out on creating a unique record in Cypriot football: having six different champions in six years!
When Paphos was crowned champion a year ago, it was the fifth different in as many seasons (Omonoia, Apollon, Aris and APOEL had preceded them between 2021 – 2024), which happened only for the second time, after the five years 1950-54 (Anorthosis, Cetin Kaya, APOEL, AEL, Pezoporikos).
Never in the history of Cypriot football have we had six different champions in a row, and neither has this happened now, with the clover… ending the streak at five.
It is noted that based on the teams that make up the first group of the playoffs, the record would only be achieved if the title was won by AEK, as the other five of the six are the ones that lifted the previous five championships.
