New evidence emerged in the Larnaca Police Department’s investigations into the attempted robbery at a goldsmith’s shop on July 6, as evidence was obtained that allegedly links the two suspects to the attempted robbery of a bank branch in Kiti on June 19. Arrest warrants have been issued against them and the two cases are now being investigated together.
In relation to the attempted robbery at a gold shop in Larnaca, the head of the Larnaca TAE, Giorgos Charalambous, said tonight that “the Larnaca TAE, in the context of the investigations and examinations it conducts for a case of attempted robbery from a gold shop, a case for which two persons are in custody with a warrant of arrest, secured testimony that these persons are involved in the commission and the attempted bank robbery in Kitty”.
Arrest warrants have been issued against the two suspects, he noted, adding that the cases are now being investigated by the Larnaca TAE in conjunction.
It is recalled that members of the TAE of Larnaca proceeded on the afternoon of July 7th to arrest a 41-year-old European citizen for the attempted robbery of the goldsmith’s shop that took place on July 6th in Larnaca. A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the same case.
Against the two suspects, the Police are investigating conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted robbery, illegal possession of a Class B firearm, assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, carrying a weapon to incite terror, illegal possession and transportation of explosives without the permission of the explosives inspector.
It is also recalled that on the afternoon of June 19, two people riding in a sedan drove outside a bank branch in Kiti. They then parked outside the branch, got out of the vehicle and, with their faces covered and holding sports bags, went to the bank’s entrance, which was not opened due to the controlled system. After a few seconds, they boarded the vehicle they arrived in and left.
