DIKO expresses a position in favor of the government’s handling of the energy sector, arguing that the problems facing the country today were not created in recent years, but are a consequence of perennial weaknesses and wrong decisions.
In a statement, the party states that the current situation is the result of the absence of timely and comprehensive planning, the aging of critical infrastructure, the inability to effectively integrate energy from Renewable Sources, the lack of adequate storage systems, the scandal at Vasilikos and delays in the development of new production units.
As he notes, the current government was called upon to manage problems that had been accumulating for a number of years, referring to critical decisions that were postponed and incorrect handling of previous decades, the costs of which are now borne by the consumer.
DIKO expresses its support to the government and the Minister of Energy, stating that projects and interventions are underway to strengthen the country’s energy security.
Among them, he mentions the implementation of the first central electricity storage systems with a total capacity of 120 MW, the upgrading of the networks, the new production units in Dekelia, the electrical interconnection with Greece, as well as the completion of the infrastructure in Vassiliko for the arrival of natural gas.
At the same time, the party criticizes AKEL and DISY, arguing that they have the right to criticize, however they must explain which infrastructures and which projects they completed when they were in charge of governance.
“Energy security is not built with announcements and subsequent complaints. It is being built with planning, with investments and with modern infrastructures”, says DIKO.
