In a new protest at the Rizoelias roundabout, at 11 am on Friday, May 11, the livestock farmers will go ahead as a reaction to the measures for foot-and-mouth disease.
In statements, after a meeting held in Choirokoitia, the representative of the breeders, Neophytos Kasapis, said that “we were all denied because from the beginning we did not expect that we would be able to wake up the people and come to us”. Tonight, he added, it was seen that livestock farming is indeed here, tonight it was seen that for us the younger generations nothing has been lost, neither for the elders, nor for our fathers, nor for our children”.
He then said that “livestock farming was, is and will be in Cyprus and on Friday at 11 in the morning we will go to a protest at the Rizoelias roundabout, strongly and we are sure that you will see something very big and right that the whole world will perceive”.
Asked to state what times the protest will take place, Mr. Kasapis replied that “unfortunately, some people banned us from the timetables, with yesterday’s announcements and positions”. Continuing, he said that “we do not have any timetable and what will happen on Friday at 11 will be something very dynamic and we will move accordingly”.
Asked whether it will be ensured that the people will not suffer from the protest, he replied that “we have also discussed with all the members, the whole world understands, respects and values every other citizen who moves around in Cyprus. We did not want nor do we want anyone to suffer and everyone should be sure that the protest is not only for us, it is not only for livestock farming, it is for everyone. Everyone must understand that livestock farming is one of the biggest pillars of the Cyprus economy and we want to thank them in advance, because even last time certain things happened that we didn’t want to happen either, now we are even more organized and I am sure they will be on our side”.
