“The place in the people”: Presentation of Theater Workshops in the Mountain Communities: Foini, Kyperounda and Lania

On the initiative of the Cyprus Theater Organization and in collaboration with the Troodos Mountains Cultural Committee and the Commissioner of Mountainous Communities, since last February, open theater workshops have started under the title “The place in the people”, with the aim of strengthening cohesion, memory, imagination and collective identity, under the guidance of animators in the mountain communities of Foini, Kyperounda and Lania.

Through these meetings, bonds developed between the people of each place and, with the power of theatre, all generations came together with passion and creativity, recorded their own memories and stories and are now preparing to tell them to you.

Stories from Kyperountas Sanatorium

Myths and truths of a charged place, a place of “miasm”, but also of relief and care, are woven into a vivid narrative. How does then meet now and breathe again? The memories, voices and souls of yesterday emerge in the present, seeking redemption and peace.

A living memory, where the theater becomes an act of memory and collective breathing! A sharing that brings the people of this place closer, they express themselves, listen and be heard, effortlessly highlighting the “coolness” and “lalia” of Kyperounda.

In the square of Lania, where the place has always met its people, we will gather to tell stories, to look the public in the eyes and let them see the village through ours. A small wooden tent and a group of children and adults of the village meet a king, a toy, a glass of comandaria, a painting and old photographs. Small theatrical moments that open a passage to the past and the present of Lania and her people.
